We are in an era of visual dynamism where our sense of smell often takes a backseat to the endless scrolling pleasures of our tailored algorithms. The simple act of intentionally paying attention to our olfactory tools can be a powerful access point to gentle presence as well as a rich space for creativity and fun.
Join artist Mia Reiko Braverman for a session focused on the nose, where we’ll explore fragrance through the multi-sensory practice of making and enjoying Japanese style incense.
In this class you will make 8-10 incense cones from all natural materials as well as experience unique and rare fragrant woods from the Monkoh tradition of listening to incense. You will also receive a kiribako (wood box made in Japan) to carry your incense cones.
Drinks and onigiri (rice balls) will be provided. The Apa Kabar space is floor seating only (shoes off) but please let us know if you need any accommodations.
