いらっしゃいませ (irasshaimase - welcome, come on in)!
Join us for a special residency where Fumi, an artist-led project rooted in scent, memory, and hanging out at home, takes over Apa Kabar, your neighborhood tea house and creative third space.
From June 3–15, Apa Kabar will pause its regular programming to host this ephemeral shop and gathering space curated by Fumi. The residency will feature handmade all-natural incense, vintage wares and clothing, and works by Portland-based and international artists.
The space is shared with Lost Avenue Books and Super-Electric Records, adding to the layered atmosphere of books, music, tea, and scent.
Throughout the two weeks, Fumi will host a series of special events, including Talk Story Tea Time, an intimate conversation series with Portland artists. The residency will close with a celebration on Sunday, June 15, marking Fumi’s one-year anniversary.
We hope to see you there. Come smell, sip, and stay awhile ~
Events
Talk story is a Hawaiian Pidgin term for informal, improvisational conversation ~ part oral history, part everyday exchange. It’s a way people connect and share memories, everyday stories, and simply pass the time. Talk Story Tea Time invites participants into a casual, durational dialogue led by Fumi artist Mia Reiko Braverman, who was raised in Hawaiʻi, in conversation with a cohort of Portland-based artists. Each conversation is shaped by the relationship between host and guest and the relational nature of talk story itself.
We’ll be serving teas from Apa Kabar’s own Moonstone Tea collection and burning special incense blends. Learn more about the featured artist by clicking the button below.

A personal note…
This residency is a family affair. Fumi artist, Mia Reiko Braverman, and Apa Kabar owners, Amy Zhen and Joshua Limanjaya, have been building a deep collaborative relationship over the past year hosting incense and tea workshops, tabling at community events, and just supporting each other as small BIPOC owned businesses in the Pacific Northwest. Feels lucky to work with friends. Honored and grateful for Amy and Joshua’s trust with their space. This has been a dream evolution for Fumi for some time and we can’t wait to see it come together. Come hang out ~
