Incense is at the heart of Fumi and we are honored to introduce you to the craft of making it and and its history.

For those new to us ~ we’ve been teaching incense classes before opening our shop in places like Apa Kabar (Portland), Ei-to (Awaji, Japan), and Sun Sun (Bingen, Washington). Classes are led by Fumi’s founder, Mia Reiko Braverman, whose practice centers the Japanese diaspora of incense traditions.

Together we’ll learn about the history of incense in Japan (and beyond), experience rare aloeswood through the monkō practice of listening to incense, and make all-natural incense cones using all natural materials.

This class is about cultural exchange and respect. You’ll leave with incense you made yourself and hopefully a deeper connection to the natural materials and histories that surround this ancient practice.
